Our engineers developed an in-car solution for collecting and forwarding large quantities of data generated during a journey. The data cover a number of areas, including the route taken by the car and other vehicle sensed parameters.
The first challenge presented by the project and, I think, the greatest, was the lack of precise requirements. Our team drew up a product specification which we put forward to the client. That demanded an excellent understanding of what they required and a profound knowledge of the car manufacturer’s multimedia platform.

Duly anonymised, the information makes its way to one of the global leaders in the collection and processing of mobility-related data. They are used for a range of purposes, including planning public transport infrastructure, optimising delivery logistics and eliminating hold-ups by building tunnels, viaducts and flyovers. Ultimately, the app will operate in 1M+ vehicles, processing and sending some 12 TB of information per hour.
Tools and challenges
Our solution uses CANalyzer for the analysis of data flow in serial bus systems. Limited CPU and memory usage were the great challenges here. The fun part was that a real infotainment system was used for the project and CANalyzer for route simulation purposes.
