MakoLab enters the space sector, joining the Serco-led consortium contributing to Destination Earth
MakoLab has joined a consortium contributing to Destination Earth (DestinE), a European Commission initiative implemented by the European Space Agency (ESA), the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT). As part of a collaboration led by ESA’s prime contractor, Serco, MakoLab is responsible for the technical development and maintenance of the new DestinE web portal, which will serve as an important access point to the DestinE ecosystem, the Digital Twin Data and its services.
Becoming part of a Serco-led project for ESA marks a significant milestone in MakoLab’s history and opens the door to one of the most demanding and prestigious sectors in the world, the space industry. We are contributing to a major European initiative that combines Earth observation (EO), digital technologies and advanced modelling to support better-informed decisions on environmental and climate-related challenges. The development represents an important step towards diversifying our client portfolio and expanding our presence on new markets.
Building on this foundation, we are actively deepening our engagement in the space sector and reinforcing our experience in complex European technology projects. We are also pursuing participation in further projects within this domain, reflecting our company's growing ambition and capability in the sector.

About DestinE
Destination Earth, or DestinE for short, is a European Union funded initiative with the aim of building a digital model of Earth. Joint implementation of the initiative has been entrusted to three entities: the European Space Agency (ESA), responsible for building the Core Service Platform; the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), responsible for the creation of the first two digital twins and the Digital Twin Engine; and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), responsible for the creation of the ‘Data Lake’.
