Changes in the Supervisory Board of MakoLab S.A. Company’s founder is appointed as Chair

The decision to change the composition of the MakoLab S.A. Supervisory Board was taken during an Extraordinary Shareholders’ Meeting of the company, which is listed on the NewConnect market run by the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Mirosław Sopek, PhD, became a member of the board, as did Marcin Sadlej. The board then appointed Dr Sopek to the position of Chair.

The changes to the Supervisory Board of MakoLab S.A. are related in part to a decision made by the company’s founder and one of its majority shareholders as regards formalising the supervisory process for the implementation of an operational strategy which is grounded in the theses underlying a proprietary approach called Intelligence Amplified.

The operations planned by the management board for the coming years are rooted in Intelligence Amplified, which is my vision. It posits a great deal more than the concept of artificial intelligence does. It’s technology enriched with people’s experience and it’s driving innovation and productivity. While this operational strategy is being implemented, I want to supervise it personally as regards keeping to the developmental directions, which are designed to increase the company’s value and effectively build an organisation that’s even more attractive to its stakeholders, in other words, its shareholders, clients and staff.

At the end of February, Jacek Michalak resigned as a member of the Supervisory Board. The other members continue to fulfil their functions, with Sybilla Graczyk, who previously served as Chair of the Supervisory Board, now appointed as Vice Chair.

In its Q4 2024 report, MakoLab announced record quarterly sales of PLN 20.7 million, a 16% increase on the same period in 2023. The company closed sales for last year at PLN 72,332,000, representing a slight increase in comparison with the preceding year.

Mirosław Sopek, PhD, is the founder of MakoLab S.A., which has offices in Poland, France, Germany, the UK and the USA. He is also the director general of MakoLab USA Inc. A graduate of the Faculty of Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics at Łódź University of Technology, he obtained his doctorate in theoretical and quantum chemistry at his alma mater’s Faculty of Chemistry, where he then worked as an assistant professor in the field of molecular modelling. His experience working in higher education has also encompassed stints at Akademia Humanistyczno-Ekonomiczna in Łódź, where he was involved in e-commerce and cryptography, and at the Łódź Film School, with as focus on computer graphics.

Dr Sopek has been active in the field of symbolic artificial intelligence since 2008. He led the work of the W3C Generic Automotive Ontology (GAO) group and the WC3 Financial Industry Business Ontology (FIBO) community. He also managed the Automotive Ontology Working Group at Enterprise Data Management Council, a role in which he and his colleagues made a major contribution to the development of automotive and financial extensions for schema.org, a web-scale dictionary run by the main search engines, including Google.

MakoLab’s intensive work on redefining the use of digital identifiers such as the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) by promoting LEI knowledge graphs was led by Dr Sopek. The current development of the platform includes the active practice of combining blockchain and semantic technologies.

In 2021, Dr Sopek founded Quantum Blockchains, Inc, a start-up dealing with quantum cryptography with the goal of creating functioning blockchain technology capable of resisting the threats currently emerging from quantum computers. That same year, he was appointed as a European Commission Expert in the sphere of data processing processes. This was extended to include artificial intelligence in 2024. It was also in 2021 that he was elected as Chair of the Council of Łódź University of Technology, going on to be re-elected at the beginning of 2025.
