Driving innovation. MakoLab 17th Annual Vehicle Remarketing Summit

The recent 17th Annual Vehicle Remarketing Summit, held in Madrid, was an excellent platform for industry leaders to discuss the changing landscape of automotive remarketing. MakoLab stood out as of the few IT/software companies there among the OEMs, financial firms, logistics providers and fleet management companies in attendance.

Represented MakoLab in Madrid were Martin Kanaan, Head of Marketing & Business Development, and Tomasz Soszynski, Head of Automotive Software Solutions. They both led discussions on how digital solutions such as our Vehicle Lifecycle Manager (VLM) and AI Damage Locator (AIDL) are shaping the future of vehicle remarketing.

The shift from ownership to mobility solutions

The market is shifting from outright purchases to leasing and subscription models, making total cost of mobility (TCM) a more relevant metric than upfront cost.

We’re seeing a clear shift towards mobility-as-a-service, aka MaaS, and that’s where our VLM truly adds value, by helping businesses manage leasing, financing and remarketing in a streamlined way
Martin Kanaan, Head of Marketing and Business Development

The growing need for battery health certification

The used battery electric vehicle (BEV) market is continuing to face challenges as a result of the uncertainty surrounding battery degradation. OEMs and leasing companies have highlighted the necessity for reliable state of health (SoH) certification to ensure fair pricing of residual values.

MakoLab recognises the BEV challenge! While our VLM certainly optimises remarketing workflows, integrating battery health data into it, possibly through partnerships, could help enhance trust in BEV resale

AI and data-driven decision making. The next step

Automakers and remarketing experts are turning to AI-powered pricing and predictive analytics with increasing frequency, in order to better predict residual values and optimise vehicle remarketing.

AI is transforming the way we assess used cars. Our AI Damage Locator (AIDL) is already enhancing vehicle assessments and we can see a huge opportunity in terms of applying AI to broader pricing and remarketing decisions

Extending resale channels beyond dealer networks

Multiple resale channels outside of dealership networks are turning out to be a critical application tool. A great many players are seeking wireless B2C remarketing that facilitates fast sales and the highest possible residual values.

Reselling used vehicles has traditionally been limited to dealer networks. Now, though, leasing companies, OEMs and fleet operators are increasingly looking for ways to sell vehicles directly to consumers. With VLM’s ability to integrate with online marketplaces and auction platforms, we’re enabling a more dynamic and profitable resale strategy

Collaboration and partnerships

The event presented an opportunity for some interesting collaborations, including discussions on the potential for integrating EV battery health monitoring into our VLM system and on delving more deeply into a blockchain-based vehicle profile for secure vehicle history management.

We’re actively looking at strategic partnerships that will complement our solutions. Combining VLM’s vehicle history tracking with blockchain security could create a tamper-proof identity card for vehicles. And that’s an area we’re keen to explore

MakoLab’s role in the future of remarketing

As a company that has been engaged with remarketing for years, MakoLab can help companies navigate changes by way of:

  • our Vehicle Lifecycle Manager (VLM), a comprehensive digital solution for vehicle buyback, remarketing, fleet tracking, and resale, featuring the capability of selling directly to consumers beyond traditional dealer networks through B2C integrations;
  • our AI Damage Locator (AIDL), an AI-driven tool for recognising vehicle damage and estimating repair costs, improving the accuracy of assessments;
  • advanced AI and data solutions that support predictive analytics, automate pricing and optimise digital remarketing strategies.

The discussions at the summit and insights we gathered there have reinforced our commitment to providing innovative solutions to meet the challenges of vehicle remarketing.

MakoLab is bridging the gap between traditional remarketing processes and the future of AI-driven vehicle lifecycle management
