Management Board and
a new role for the company’s founder
When the Supervisory Board of MakoLab SA met on 8th February 2023, two crucial decisions concerning the Management Board were made. Mirosław Sopek, PhD, the company’s founder and a major shareholder, resigned from his position as Vice President of the Management Board. The Supervisory Board appointed a new Vice President, Marek Wodzisławski, in his stead. Mr Wodzisławski has been with MakoLab for five years
The beginning of 2023 has brought some important changes to MakoLab’s governing body. The founder, Dr Mirosław Sopek, has submitted his resignation as Vice President of the Management Board. Viewed from the perspective of the company’s thirty-three years as a presence on the market, this is a historical moment. Dr Sopek created MakoLab and went on to carving out the directions it would take in its development and the goals it would pursue. For the first twenty years, he was involved in almost every process, as his colleagues well remember. A change came in 2008, when the company went public on the NewConnect market of the Warsaw Stock Exchange and he handed the reins of management to Wojciech Zieliński, who remains President of the Board to this day. Since then, Dr Sopek’s primary focus has been the company’s technological development and conceiving new ideas for its growth.
My decision to resign as Vice President of the Management Board wasn’t a sudden one, but a step in my steady implementation of my plan to step back from the company’s direct management structure. I firmly believe that I’m leaving MakoLab in excellent, tried and trusted hands. I founded the company more than thirty years ago and I’ll continue to support it in an advisory role, focusing on the directions it takes strategically and in its research and development activities. There are numerous tasks ahead of me, including my work as Chair of Łódź University of Technology. They lie at the intersection of science and business and I want to devote myself to them. I also want to immerse myself more deeply in questions of quantum technology. It fascinates me and it’s influencing what we currently call the IT sector. It’s going to be game changing. My involvement in the management of MakoLab didn’t leave me much time or space for all of that.
Mirosław Sopek, PhD
Dr Sopek’s departure from the Management Board on 28th February 2023 will not affect the number of board members. A new Vice President, Marek Wodzisławski, has been appointed in his stead. Mr Wodzisławski, who has been with MakoLab for five years, is a graduate of the Łódź University of Technology, where he studied at the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering. He worked for Łódź-based company Ericpol Telecom Sp. z o.o., (renamed Ericpol sp. z o.o. in 2012) for fifteen years, starting out on projects for the telecommunications sector and moving up the ladder to become the person responsible for growing the business in terms of connectivity solutions for the automotive market. Then, in March 2017, he joined MakoLab as the head of a newly conceived business area, which would be devoted to connected vehicles.
When I came to MakoLab, I knew I was joining a company with vast experience not only in projects for the automotive industry, but also in working with the world’s largest manufacturers. The connected vehicles business area that I set up from scratch with my colleagues at MakoLab fitted in perfectly with the company’s previous achievements and what it offered the sector. Over the past five years, it’s become one of the company’s crucial business areas. The revenues are high and it provides services to clients who are leaders in the automotive and air transport industries. I think that other vital contributions to MakoLab’s image today are grounded in the emphasis on collaboration, professionalism, proactivity and openness as essential values in the everyday running of the business. Along with my extensive experience in sales, they’ll form the basis for my work on the Board, where I’ll be focusing on continuing to achieve the goal of steady, ongoing growth in the company’s sales.
Marek Wodzisławski, Head of Connected Vehicles and Vice President-Elect of the Management Board
My thanks go to Mirosław for his work on the Board and my fingers are crossed for Marek.’ That’s how I concluded the missive I sent out to all MakoLab’s staff about the changes to the Management Board. I think that both of them will strengthen the company in their new roles and play a powerful part in driving its further growth - Wojciech Zieliński , President of the Management Board.
