In the service of science
With its ability to categorise and systemise data, Semantic web will revolutionise the field of computational chemistry. The majority of this kind of scientific data is presently scattered across the websites of scientific publishers, often with extremely limited access, if accessible at all. This means that the data, absent from the web search engines and often only available for a significant amount of money, remains inaccessible to the global scientific community. Moreover, due to the wide variety and incompatibility of the available sources of data, finding relevant results and obtaining new knowledge is a cumbersome process that requires arduous labour on the part of the user. Many opportunities are wasted due to the chaotic nature of this online content.
The goal of Chemical Semantics is to deliver a semantic platform for the publication and access to data from the field of computational chemistry. The two main projects comprising the endeavour are:
- Developing software which enables researchers, especially within computational chemistry and biochemistry, to publish data using semantic methods
- Agent software, which provides researchers with access to published data, enabling them to use semantic techniques such as inference in the database of globally collected knowledge.
Combining the competences of MakoLab in the field of Semantic Web Programming and HyperCube’s unmatched experience in scientific software means that Chemical Semantics may spark a truly revolutionary methodology for chemical research.
